Len Polizzotto
Director
Leonard (Len) Polizzotto is currently a Distinguished Executivein Residence, and Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at WorcesterPolytechnic Institute; an Executive in Residence at Northeastern University;program manager for the Neurocritical Care Society Curing Coma Campaign, apartner in The Practice of Innovation, and a member of Metamagnetics, Inc.Board of Directors. He works with companies, organizations, and individuals,including university faculty and students, to help them focus their researchand projects on important problems and to develop innovative high-valuesolutions. In addition, he is working with a team of neuro-intensive careclinicians on an effort to find a cure for coma. He is a former vice presidentat Draper Laboratory, SRI International, and the Polaroid Corporation, where hehelped leverage core technologies and capabilities for new applications.
He is a Charter Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors,holds twelve patents and is a former member of the Smithsonian Lemelson Centerfor Invention and Innovation advisory board. He received his Ph.D. in visualsciences, combining electrical engineering, perceptual psychology, andophthalmology, from Tufts University. He earned M.S. and B.S. degrees inelectrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he was anNCAA Post Graduate Scholar. He has also completed the University of VirginiaDarden School TEP program. He is the co-author of articles on efforts to curecoma, color perception, and innovation and has published two books on drum set instruction.
